"Pretty Little Liars" star Shay Mitchell sat down with Zap2it during a recent set visit to dish the dirt on when the show returns from hiatus. She tells us all about Emily, Toby and her character's new swim team rival.
Before the break, Emily made her romantic choice -- she cast her lot for Maya. So are the Toby/Emily 'shippers going to be disappointed?
"I don't think anybody's going to be disappointed with how the direction goes in either way," says Mitchell. "Toby could be coming back into Emily's life, he could not be, but you won't be disappointed, is what I have to say."
When we last saw Toby, he was being hauled away by the police. And it sounds like his dark ways are going to continue on the show.
"I don't know what's going to happen with him ... Toby's very mysterious and he definitely leaves all of us hanging. It'd be nice to have him back in Rosewood," says Mitchell.
Aside from Toby and Maya, Emily has a new entanglement in her life. Not romantic, but competitive.
"Lindsey Shaw, who is an amazing actress, an amazing girl, [plays Paige] on the swim team with me," Mitchell says. "Things get a little competitive. Putting two very competitive girls in one room, things get a little difficult."
As Emily, Shay isn't just talking about being on the swim team -- she's actually getting in the water and it's a bit of a new experience.
"I used to swim when I was younger," says Mitchell. "But to say that I did laps or anything like Emily does, or how into the pool she actually is, no, it wasn't really like that. But I'm defintely getting some swimming in there now."
"Pretty Little Liars" returns Monday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m. on ABC Family.
